PORTFOLIO

My work covers a wide selection of subject areas and has involved close collaboration with a diverse array of authors, ranging from eminent zoologists and gardeners to celebrity chefs. Whatever the theme, my aim is always the same: to produce content that is engaging, accessible and informative.

Below are some of the projects I’ve worked on, either as sole editor or as part of a team. To see individual subject areas, click on the subject links (underlined). Or, scroll down to see the full range. I welcome any new subjects, however obscure. Please get in touch.

Food & Cookery

My own continually expanding collection of cookbooks that is gradually taking over my house speaks of a lifetime of interest in food and cooking. I have been fortunate in working with some highly talented cooks, food photographers and home economists, and always welcome work in this thoroughly enjoyable area.

Natural History

I’ve edited a wide range of titles about the natural world, from lavishly illustrated books for the home library to photo-encyclopedic field guides. Several are published in association with the Natural History Museum (in London) and the Smithsonian Institution (in Washington DC).

History

The history books I’ve worked on vary in their breadth and depth – some take a broad, sweeping view, reaching across millennia and continents, others take a detailed approach to a specific event. All bring the subject to life with outstanding photography, infographics, timelines and specially created maps.

Architecture, Art & Culture

With a lifelong interest and background in the arts, which included studying literature and history of art as part of my university degree, I have a strong desire to develop this area of my work.

Health & Lifestyle

This category continues to evolve as lifestyle trends shift and health innovations emerge. In addition to editing the books shown here, I have worked on numerous books on wellbeing and the home.

Gardening

My first foray into editing gardening books was as part of an in-house team working on the RHS A-Z of Garden Plants – the world’s most comprehensive garden plant encyclopedia, written by over 70 experts. Since then, I have edited a great number of gardening books of all kinds.

Travel

This is a small but hopefully growing section in my portfolio, which includes glossy books for the armchair traveller as well as a series of pocket-sized mapped walking tours of the world’s major cities.

TV tie-ins

I’ve worked on many TV tie-ins over the years. These bring their own set of challenges, including super-tight schedules and liaising with producers and authors on location to ensure the book accurately reflects the series as filming progresses and plans change.
